Payment fees
Venmo Fee Calculator
Venmo charges 1.75% when you are paid for goods or services — a minimum of $0.25 and a maximum of $25 per payment — and the same 1.75% if you move money to your bank instantly. On a $100 payment the fee is $1.75 and you receive $98.25. Standard bank transfers cost nothing. Enter your amount below for the exact fee, including the minimum and maximum, which catch out more people than the percentage does.
How much does Venmo charge?
Venmo charges 1.75% of the payment for goods and services — including payments covered by Venmo’s purchase protection and payments to business profiles — with a minimum fee of $0.25 and a maximum of $25 per payment. The fee comes out of what the seller receives: on $100 the seller loses $1.75 and keeps $98.25. An instant transfer to your bank account or debit card costs the same 1.75% with the same minimum and maximum, while a standard transfer is free and takes 1–3 business days. Ordinary payments between friends, funded from a Venmo balance, bank account or debit card, are free.
How it works
Venmo keeps its fee structure simpler than most: one percentage, one minimum, one maximum. Whether you searched for a Venmo fees calculator, a Venmo charge calculator or the goods and services fee specifically, this is the whole calculation:
Venmo fee = 1.75% × amount — but never less than $0.25 and never more than $25You receive = amount − Venmo feeThe minimum and maximum matter more than the percentage. Below about $14.29 the $0.25 minimum takes over, so a $10 sale loses 2.5%, not 1.75%. Above about $1,428.57 the $25 cap takes over, so a $2,000 payment loses just 1.25% — the cap quietly makes Venmo cheaper, percentage-wise, the larger the payment gets. The reverse mode above solves the same maths backwards: tell it what you need to receive and it finds the amount to ask for, minimum and cap included.

Worked examples
Example 1 — a $100 goods and services payment
| Payment amount | $100.00 |
| Venmo fee (1.75%) | $1.75 |
| You receive | $98.25 |
| Effective fee rate | 1.75% |
Right in the middle of the range — neither the minimum nor the maximum is anywhere near applying.
Example 2 — a $2,000 instant transfer to your bank
| Transfer amount | $2,000.00 |
| Fee at 1.75% before the cap | $35.00 |
| Venmo fee charged (maximum applies) | $25.00 |
| You receive | $1,975.00 |
| Effective fee rate | 1.25% |
The $25 cap is the most valuable line in Venmo’s fee table for anyone moving large amounts instantly.
Example 3 — a $10 goods and services payment
| Payment amount | $10.00 |
| Fee at 1.75% before the minimum | $0.18 |
| Venmo fee charged (minimum applies) | $0.25 |
| You receive | $9.75 |
| Effective fee rate | 2.50% |
Small sales are where the minimum bites: this seller paid 2.5%, not the advertised 1.75%.
When these fees apply — and the limitations
This calculator covers Venmo’s standard US fees for goods and services payments and bank transfers. It does not cover:
- Credit-card-funded personal payments — sending money to friends from a credit card costs the sender 3%; the calculator’s modes are the receiving and transferring fees.
- Venmo’s other products — the Venmo debit and credit cards, cryptocurrency buying and selling, and check deposits each carry their own fees, listed on Venmo’s fee pages.
- Purchase protection eligibility — the 1.75% buys protection only on eligible payments; Venmo’s terms exclude some categories and situations, and a payment only counts as goods and services if it is tagged that way or sent to a business profile.
- Taxes — Venmo reports goods and services income to the tax authorities at the applicable thresholds; the fee calculation has nothing to do with the tax you may owe on the income itself.
Venmo is a US service and these are the US fees. Confirm the current figures on Venmo’s own fee pages before relying on them.
Comparing your options
The comparison sellers ask about is Venmo vs PayPal: both are owned by PayPal, but a PayPal commercial payment costs 3.49% + $0.49 — $3.98 on a $100 sale — against Venmo’s $1.75, because PayPal’s rate is the full checkout rate and Venmo’s is an app-payment rate. Against Cash App, Venmo’s 1.75% goods and services fee undercuts the 2.75% Cash App charges business accounts, while both apps charge up to 1.75% for instant access to your money. Run your own amounts through the PayPal fee calculator and the Cash App fee calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Venmo charge for goods and services?
Venmo charges the seller 1.75% of the payment, with a minimum fee of $0.25 and a maximum of $25 per payment. On a $100 payment the fee is $1.75 and the seller receives $98.25. The same 1.75% rate, minimum and maximum apply whether the payment is tagged as goods and services by the buyer or sent to a Venmo business profile.
Why did Venmo take 1.75% from my payment?
Because the payment was treated as a commercial one: either the buyer tagged it as a payment for goods or services (which adds Venmo’s purchase protection), or it was sent to a business profile. Ordinary payments between friends and family — funded from a Venmo balance, bank account or debit card — carry no fee at all.
What is Venmo’s instant transfer fee?
Moving money from Venmo to your bank account or eligible debit card instantly costs 1.75% of the amount, with a $0.25 minimum and a $25 maximum. On $500 that is $8.75; on $2,000 the cap holds it to $25. The standard transfer is free but takes 1–3 business days to arrive.
Is there a fee to send money to friends on Venmo?
Not if you pay from your Venmo balance, a linked bank account or a debit card — those payments are free. If you fund the payment with a credit card, Venmo charges the sender a 3% fee. Receiving a personal payment is always free; fees only appear on goods and services payments, instant transfers and credit-card funding.
Who pays the Venmo fee — the buyer or the seller?
For goods and services payments, the seller pays: the buyer sends the full amount and the 1.75% is deducted before the money lands in the seller’s account. For instant transfers, the person moving the money pays. That is why the reverse mode above exists — if you need a specific amount to arrive, it tells you what to ask the buyer to send.
