Etsy Fee Calculator

Etsy takes four separate cuts from a typical US sale: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the price plus shipping, and payment processing of 3% + $0.25 — about 9.5% plus $0.45 before optional ads. On a $40 item with $5 shipping, total fees are $4.73 and you receive $40.27 of the $45 the buyer paid. Enter your own sale below for the full line-by-line breakdown.

How much does Etsy charge per sale?

A US Etsy seller pays $0.20 to list an item, 6.5% of the order total (item price plus shipping) as a transaction fee, and 3% + $0.25 to process the payment. On a $100 item with free shipping that adds up to $9.95 in fees, leaving $90.05. If the sale came from an Offsite Ad, add 15% of the order total (12% for shops that have passed $10,000 in annual sales), capped at $100 per order.

How it works

Etsy does not have one fee — it has a stack of them, charged by different parts of the platform. Whether you searched for an Etsy fees calculator, an Etsy seller fees calculator or simply “how much does Etsy take”, these are the four charges to understand:

Listing fee = $0.20 per listing
Transaction fee = 6.5% × (item price + shipping charged)
Payment processing = 3% × (item price + shipping charged) + $0.25 (US rate)
Offsite Ads fee = 15% or 12% × (item price + shipping charged) (only when an Offsite Ad made the sale)
You receive = (item price + shipping) − all fees

The detail sellers most often miss is that both percentage fees are charged on the shipping you charge the buyer as well as the item price. “Free shipping” avoids that only in the sense that the shipping cost is then inside the item price, where it is charged on anyway. The reverse mode above works the stack backwards: tell it what you want to receive, and it finds the item price that produces it at your shipping charge.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a $40 item with $5 shipping (a typical handmade sale)

Order total ($40 + $5 shipping)$45.00
Listing fee$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5%)$2.93
Payment processing (3% + $0.25)$1.60
Total Etsy fees$4.73
You receive$40.27

Fees consume 10.5% of the order total here — more than the 9.5% headline, because the fixed fees weigh heavier on a small order.

Example 2 — a $25 digital download (no shipping)

Order total$25.00
Listing fee$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5%)$1.63
Payment processing (3% + $0.25)$1.00
Total Etsy fees$2.83
You receive$22.17

Example 3 — a $120 item with $10 shipping, sold via an Offsite Ad at 15%

Order total ($120 + $10 shipping)$130.00
Listing fee$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5%)$8.45
Payment processing (3% + $0.25)$4.15
Offsite Ads fee (15%)$19.50
Total Etsy fees$32.30
You receive$97.70

One in four dollars of this order went to Etsy — the Offsite Ads fee is the single biggest charge, which is why established shops watch their ad attribution closely.

When these fees apply — and the limitations

This calculator uses the standard fees for a US-based shop paid through Etsy Payments. Adjust your expectations for:

Sales tax/VAT collected from buyers is handled by Etsy in most US states and many countries and never reaches your balance — it is not part of this calculation. Confirm current rates in Etsy’s own Fees & Payments policy.

Comparing your options

For Etsy vs eBay: on a $100 sale Etsy keeps about $9.95 while eBay’s final value fee takes $13.55 — but they are different marketplaces with different buyers, so most sellers choose by audience, not by fee alone. Run your products through the eBay fee calculator for the other side of the comparison, and use the Etsy pricing calculator when you want to set a price that guarantees your profit after these fees.

Frequently asked questions

Does Etsy charge its 6.5% transaction fee on shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee — and payment processing too — is calculated on the total the buyer pays you, which is the item price plus the shipping you charge (and gift wrap, if you charge for it). This is the most common reason sellers underestimate Etsy fees: on a $40 item with $10 shipping, the percentage fees apply to $50, not $40.

How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?

For a US seller, a $100 item with free shipping loses $9.95 to Etsy: $0.20 listing, $6.50 transaction fee and $3.25 payment processing (3% + $0.25). You keep $90.05. Add shipping to the order or an Offsite Ads click and the deduction rises — a $100 item sold via a 15% Offsite Ad loses about $24.95 in total.

What is the total Etsy fee percentage?

The percentage fees alone are 9.5% of the order total (6.5% transaction + 3% processing), plus $0.45 of fixed fees ($0.20 listing + $0.25 processing). On a small order the fixed parts push the true rate higher — about 10.5% on a $45 order — while on a $500 order the effective rate drops close to 9.6%. Offsite Ads sales add 12–15% on top when they happen.

Can I opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?

Shops with less than $10,000 in annual revenue can opt out of Offsite Ads in their shop settings, and many small sellers do. Once your shop passes $10,000 in a 12-month period, participation becomes mandatory and cannot be switched off — but your rate drops from 15% to 12%, and the fee is capped at $100 per order.

When do I actually pay Etsy fees?

Fees are deducted from your Etsy payment account as they arise: processing fees come straight off each sale, and listing and transaction fees are taken from your balance or added to your monthly statement. If your balance does not cover them, the card on file is charged. Either way, the amounts in this calculator are the amounts that leave your earnings.
