How much does Cash App charge?

Cash App’s main fees are two. An instant deposit to your bank account or debit card costs 0.5% to 1.75% of the amount, with a $0.25 minimum and a $25 maximum — Cash App sets the exact rate and shows it before you confirm. And a Cash App for Business account pays 2.75% on every payment it receives. Everything else most people do is free: standard deposits (1–3 business days), and sending or receiving ordinary personal payments. On a $200 instant deposit at the maximum rate, the fee is $3.50 and $196.50 reaches your bank.

How it works

Cash App has three fee situations, and the calculator handles each one. Whether you searched for a Cash App calculator, a Cash App fee calculator or the instant transfer fee specifically, the maths is:

Instant deposit fee = your rate (0.5%–1.75%) × amount — never less than $0.25, never more than $25
Business payment fee = 2.75% × amount received
Standard deposit fee = $0
You receive = amount − fee

Two things trip people up. First, the instant rate is not fixed: Cash App sets it somewhere in the 0.5%–1.75% range and displays it on the confirmation screen, so this calculator defaults to the worst case (1.75%) and lets you lower it to whatever your app actually shows. Second, the minimum and maximum still apply at whatever rate you get — at 1.75% the $0.25 minimum rules below about $14.29, and the $25 cap rules above about $1,428.57. The reverse mode works backwards from the amount you need to receive, which is the mode business sellers should use when pricing.

Worked examples

Example 1 — a $200 instant deposit at the maximum 1.75% rate

Deposit amount$200.00
Cash App fee (1.75%)$3.50
You receive$196.50
Effective fee rate1.75%

At the lowest rate in the range (0.5%) the same deposit would cost just $1.00 — always check the rate on the confirmation screen.

Example 2 — a $500 payment received by a Cash App for Business account

Payment amount$500.00
Cash App fee (2.75%)$13.75
You receive$486.25
Effective fee rate2.75%

The business fee has no minimum or maximum — it is a straight 2.75% at every size.

Example 3 — a $40 instant deposit at the lowest 0.5% rate

Deposit amount$40.00
Fee at 0.5% before the minimum$0.20
Cash App fee charged (minimum applies)$0.25
You receive$39.75
Effective fee rate0.63%

Even the cheapest instant rate cannot dodge the $0.25 minimum on a small deposit.

Comparing your options

The closest comparison is Cash App vs Venmo: Venmo charges a flat 1.75% for instant transfers with the same $0.25 minimum and $25 maximum, while Cash App’s instant rate can be lower (its range starts at 0.5%) but is set per transaction. For selling, the gap reverses — Venmo’s goods and services fee is 1.75% against the 2.75% Cash App takes from business accounts. And both apps undercut PayPal for app-to-app selling: a PayPal commercial payment costs 3.49% + $0.49. Compare your own figures in the Venmo fee calculator and the PayPal fee calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Cash App charge for an instant deposit?

Between 0.5% and 1.75% of the amount, with a $0.25 minimum and a $25 maximum per deposit. Cash App sets the exact rate for each deposit and shows it before you confirm. At the maximum rate a $200 deposit costs $3.50; the standard deposit, which takes 1–3 business days, is free.

Why did Cash App charge me 2.75%?

Because the payment was received by a Cash App for Business account. Business accounts pay 2.75% of every payment they receive, deducted automatically before the money settles. Personal accounts are not charged for receiving ordinary payments — if you sell through Cash App and see 2.75% coming off, your account is a business account.

Is Cash App free to send money?

Sending personal payments from your Cash App balance or a linked bank account is free, and receiving them is free. The exceptions: funding a payment with a credit card costs the sender 3%, moving money to your bank instantly costs 0.5%–1.75%, and business accounts pay 2.75% on what they receive.

How can I avoid Cash App fees?

Use standard deposits instead of instant ones (free, 1–3 business days), fund payments from your balance or bank account rather than a credit card, and — if you are charged the business fee — remember it is the price of the business account’s features, not an error. The one fee you cannot negotiate is the instant deposit rate: Cash App sets it, though it always shows it before you confirm.

Who pays the Cash App business fee?

The business receiving the payment. The customer pays the full amount, and Cash App deducts 2.75% before the money reaches the business’s balance — on a $500 payment, $13.75 comes off and $486.25 lands. The reverse mode above tells you what to charge so that a target amount survives the fee.
