About ToolFees
ToolFees exists for one reason: platform fees are quoted in a way that makes them hard to feel. “2.9% + $0.30” sounds trivial until you watch it take $3.20 out of every $100 you earn, forever. We build free calculators that turn every platform’s fee schedule into the only numbers that matter — the fee, and what you actually keep.
Who runs this site
ToolFees is an independent website, run by a small publishing team with a background in e-commerce, freelancing and search marketing. We are not owned by, affiliated with, or endorsed by any of the platforms our calculators cover — Stripe, PayPal, Square, Etsy, eBay, Shopify, Upwork, Fiverr, Venmo, Cash App, Western Union, Airbnb and Amazon are trademarks of their respective owners, and when we say a platform’s fee is high, that opinion is entirely our own and entirely free of commercial pressure.
How our rates are sourced and verified
Every calculator on this site follows the same discipline:
- Primary sources only. Each rate is taken from the platform’s own published pricing or fee policy page — never from another calculator site or a forum post. Every calculator page names its source.
- A visible verification date. Each page carries a “last verified” date (currently November 2026). When we re-check a rate, the date moves.
- Same-week updates. Platforms change fees on their own schedule — Square raised its standard online rate in January 2026, and stale calculators across the web still show the old one. We monitor the official pricing pages and update affected calculators the same week a change is published.
- Honest rounding. Where a fee is set in one currency and paid in another — Etsy’s $0.20 listing fee for UK sellers is the standing example — we say so and deliberately use the cautious figure in the calculator, not the flattering one.
- Limitations in the open. Every calculator has a limitations section naming what it does not cover: custom pricing, category exceptions, dispute fees, currency conversion. If a number on this site cannot be exact for your situation, the page tells you why.
How the site makes money
The calculators are free and carry no sign-up because the site is supported by advertising (see our privacy policy for how advertising cookies work). Advertising never influences a rate, a comparison or a ranking on this site — advertisers cannot pay to look cheaper, and the comparison tables use the same published rates as the calculators.
Corrections
If you spot a rate that has changed before we have, or an error in any calculation, please tell us via the contact page. Fee corrections are verified against the platform’s official page and fixed as a priority.
